Medical City Dallas Hospital Names New CEO

troy-villerreal-new-ceo-medical-cityOn October 1, 2013, Troy Villarreal took the reins as CEO of Medical City Dallas Hospital as departing CEO Erol Akdamar moved into his new role as president of the HCA North Texas Division.

Troy, who has 19 years' experience in health care, will oversee both Medical City Dallas and Medical City Children's Hospital. e was CEO for HCA affiliate, Medical City of Plano.

Retiring HCA North Texas President James C. Scoggins told D Healthcare magazine that "Troy's extensive experience in the North Texas market makes him an ideal leader for Medical City. He's not only driven significant achievements during his tenures as CEO of The Medical Center of Plano and before that Plaza Medical Center, but also successfully planned and executed a $160 million expansion plan as chief operating officer of Medical City before leaving in 2003."

During his tenure at Plano, Troy saw an increase of inpatient admissions by 50 percent and inpatient surgeries by more than 60 percent. He also secured $66 million in funding for a 70-bed expansion project and a provider-based ED in northern Plano.

Troy is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He earned his

Bachelor of Science in psychology from Texas A&M University in 1989 and his Master of Health Administration and Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston–Clear Lake in 1994.
