New Chief Medical Officer Named at Largo Medical Center

weiland-david-cmo-largoLargo Medical Center has named David Weiland, Jr., MD, as the facility's new chief medical officer. Dr. Weiland, with more than 20 years of healthcare experience, is board-certified in internal medicine and palliative medicine.

In the past, David served as vice president of medical affairs at Bayfront Medical Center, medical director for Suncoast Hospice and ER physician at the Bay Pines VA Health System and the James A. Haley Veteran's Hospital in Tampa.

He was also in private practice at the Downtown Medical and Diagnostic Center in St. Petersburg.

"Largo Medical Center is fortunate to have the knowledge and expertise that Dr. Weiland brings to our leadership team," said Anthony Degina, Largo Medical Center CEO. "He will be an asset in assisting the hospital and its medical staff to expand services and continue to improve quality outcomes."

David received his undergraduate degree from Amherst College in Massachusetts. He earned his medical degree and completed residency at the University of South Florida College of Medicine.

Throughout his career, David has served on numerous boards and committees including the Pinellas County Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association and the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education.

David has also received many awards and honors including being recognized by US News and World Report as a Best Doctor. He received the Tampa Bay Metro Magazine Best Doctor Award, was called a Florida Top Physician by Florida Monthly Magazine and is a USF Distinguished Alumni.

"With Largo Medical Center being one of the most well-respected healthcare providers in the community, I look forward to working with the physicians and staff at the hospital to continue to ensure a great patient experience," David said.
