HealthTrust Purchasing Group won Teradata's 2012 EPIC "On the Edge" award for its Pharmacy Spend Diagnostics project which used data analytics in a mobile environment to create value for its clients by lowering supply chain costs.
Teradata, a giant in analytic data solutions, promotes the integration of big data in business applications to empower organizations to make the best business decisions possible and give them a competitive edge in their industry.
The EPIC award recognizes Teradata customers' extraordinary innovation in the use of data analytics to create these competitive advantages.
Leigh Anderson, HealthTrust's CIO says, "The Pharmacy Spend Diagnostics project has revolutionized the way HealthTrust and its members view and manage supply chain costs. By developing a robust spend analytics product that receives automated, daily procurement feeds from pharmaceutical wholesalers on a mobile device, HealthTrust is able to increase contract compliance and decrease supply chain costs for our members. This innovative solution is currently delivering real results, but is only scratching the surface of possibilities for what is to come. In the future, this EPIC solution will reflect 100 percent of a hospital's spend, providing our members a comprehensive view of opportunity value.
"I'm grateful to our HealthTrust team and a core group of member advisors who have guided our development effort," adds Ed Jones, president and CEO of HealthTrust. "I am very confident in the architecture and benchmarks that will enable best-in-class supply chain performance."
The "On the Edge" category considers businesses developing emerging, breakthrough and innovative business applications in areas of big data analytics, web intelligence and social media analytics, the use of such data to pioneer new products and services and ultimately developing solutions to the improbable.
In addition to this report, HealthTrust recently announced that it would continue to deliver supply chain technology and software solutions with GHX, the Global Healthcare Exchange, LLC, which provides cloud-based solutions that connects healthcare provider facilities to medical-surgical suppliers across the country.
The continued partnership means lower supply chain costs to HealthTrust's 1400 not-for-profits and for-profit affiliates and its 10,600 ambulatory surgery centers, physician practices and alternate care sites.
"We understand that HealthTrust is committed to helping their hospital members deliver high quality, cost effective healthcare," said Bruce Johnson, president and CEO of GHX. "We share this goal by helping enable healthcare organizations working with GHX to automate business processes for improved efficiency and savings. In collaboration with our customers, we've successfully eliminated $2.3 billion in industry supply chain expenses since January 2010. It's because of our relationship with partners like HealthTrust that we're able to make such a significant impact on the healthcare industry."
