It wasn't but a few weeks ago that HCA received the retirement announcement of Continental Division president, Jeff Dorsey. Jeff had been a division president for seventeen years, first with the Colorado Division, a career total of thirty-one years with HCA. He saw many great achievements in his time as a medical professional and HCA is losing a great leader with his retirement.
But as all good things must come to an end, his departure leaves wide the doors for a new beginning.
Enter Sylvia Young.
Sylvia has been tapped to usher in this new beginning for the Continental Division as its new President, effective June 1st.
Though she is new to the Continental Division role, she is no newcomer to HCA. Sylvia's career spans twenty-four years with the company, the last five as division president of HCA's Sunrise Health System, which is comprised of Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and Sunrise Children’s Hospital, Mountain View Hospital and Southern Hills Hospital in addition to four ambulatory surgery centers in Las Vegas.
Her appointment also marks her return to the Denver area. From 1998 to 2007, Sylvia served as Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza, a three-campus hospital, and from 1995 to 1998 as COO of HealthONE's The Medical Center of Aurora, a two-campus hospital. She has held various leadership positions in the area since 1985.
Seven Denver-area hospitals in the HealthONE system and Wesley Medical Center and Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas make up the Continental Division. Sylvia's responsibility to the network also includes fifteen surgery centers and dozens of outpatient centers in both Colorado and Wichita.
"Sylvia is a seasoned hospital executive … with significant experience in multi-hospital operations," says Jon M. Foster, President of HCA's Southwest Group. "She brings outstanding leadership credentials to HealthONE and HCA's Continental Division, and we are pleased to welcome her back to Denver."
"While we are sad to see Jeff retire, he has built a great legacy here, and we are confident Sylvia will be a terrific leader to continue our success," said John McWilliams, Chairman of the HealthONE Board of Trustees. "Sylvia's commitment to providing high quality patient care is also our top priority at HealthONE."
And a great legacy we're sure you'll build as well, Sylvia. Congratulations.
