He has been a division president since 1995 starting with the Colorado Division. He has forty years of healthcare under his belt, thirty-one of that with HCA. He oversaw the joint creation of HealthONE with The Colorado Health Foundation, and the formation of the Continental Division as a result of that partnership. Just last year he saw HCA assume full control of that venture.
During all of this, he was responsible for sixteen surgery centers and dozens of other outpatient centers in Colorado, Oklahoma and Kansas.
His efforts have raised the Continental Division to the premier healthcare system it is today.
But on May 31, 2012, Jeff Dorsey will retire.
Jeff began his career in 1972 as an administrative resident at Portsmouth General Hospital in Virginia. In 1981, he joined HCA in several administrator roles at Terre Haute Regional Hospital in Indiana, Saudi Arabian National Guard Hospital in Saudi Arabia, Redmond Park Hospital in Georgia and Newman County Hospital in Kansas.
He rose to Executive Vice President and Administrator of Rose Medical Center in Denver in 1986 and was promoted in 1994 to President and CEO of Rose Health Care System comprised of the medical center, Columbine Psychiatric Hospital and twelve satellite facilities.
In 1995, Rose Health Care System became part of HCA's Colorado Division to which Jeff was named President in the latter part of the year.
From there, he never stopped achieving greatness.
“Jeff has been a great leader and colleague for many years,” said Sam Hazen, President of Operations for HCA. “We will miss Jeff’s dynamic leadership, but wish him well as he moves into retirement.”
The Continental Division is comprised of seven Denver-area hospitals in the HealthONE system; OU Medical Center and OU Medical Center Edmond in Oklahoma; and Wesley Medical Center and Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Dorsey also has responsibility for 16 surgery centers and dozens of other outpatient centers in Colorado, Oklahoma and Kansas.
“Jeff took HealthONE from its infancy to the greatness it now achieves in the metro Denver area,” said John McWilliams, Chairman of the HealthONE Board of Trustees. “I’m a great admirer of his administrative and leadership skills and wish him many happy years in his retirement.”
“Because of the former partnership between HCA and the Colorado Health Foundation, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn about the business of acute healthcare delivery from Jeff Dorsey,” said Anne Warhover, President and CEO of The Colorado Health Foundation.
Though it will be tough, a search is underway for Jeff's replacement.
May your achievements continue into the Golden Years, Jeff. HCA will miss you.
