Going up against international heavy hitters like Coca-Cola and Boeing was nothing for the nation's number one healthcare services provider as HCA made Computerworld's List of 100 Best Places to Work in Information Technology for the fourth year in a row.
HCA pulled in at No. 25 of 100 companies, a big jump up from our No. 32-ranking last year.
“Being on Computerworld’s Best Places to Work list is recognition of HCA’s efforts to develop and deploy technology to support a dynamic, patients-first culture that makes the company a great place to work not only for our IT professionals, but for all our approximately 199,000 employees,” said Marty Paslick, HCA’s Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “We are honored that we have been named to this prestigious list for a fourth year in a row.”
The IT&S department at HCA employs more than 3,000 across the U.S. including four data centers and fourteen division support centers responsible for delivering IT services to HCA and 80-plus non-HCA facilities.
The department’s array of services includes business analysis, systems development, systems integration, information security, customer support, training and education, and infrastructure support. IT&S is fully engaged in the design and implementation of hCare, the company’s electronic health record, and several other large scale technology projects.
Every year for the last nineteen, Computerworld has ranked the top 100 work environments for tech professionals. The list is based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories including benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. The list also takes into account fairly importantly the responses from IT workers surveyed.
As for HCA, a key factor in making for an attractive place to work is the several employee-focused programs. Educational programs promote employee health and incentives are provided for employees taking part in several wellness programs offered.
In 2005, we established the HCA Hope Fund, an employee-run, employee-supported 501(c)(3) charity that provides financial relief to thousands of HCA employees every year. In addition, HCA offers many professional development opportunities for its employees. More than 1,500 courses are offered across a variety of learning platforms to support professional development.
