Milton Johnson, HCA's new CEO, was named in the Becker's Hospital Review list of the 50 Most Powerful People in Healthcare heading into 2014.
Milton, company president since 2011, assumed the role of CEO on January 1 of this year, succeeding former CEO Richard Bracken, who will remain the board chair.
An HCA veteran since 1982, Milton started as tax manager in research and planning and later served as director of tax for Health Trust, a 1987 spinoff of HCA.
He returned to HCA as VP/tax in 1995 when the two companies merged and was later named senior vice president and controller in '98.
By 2004 Milton had earned the titles of executive vice president of the company and chief financial officer.
Then in 2011, he was named president while retaining his title as CFO.
An established certified accountant since 1981, Milton held various offices with other professional organizations prior to joining the HCA family.
Currently, he is a board of directors member with Siloam Family Health, Belmont University and the HCA Foundation.
