St. David's South Austin Selects Associate CNO from Executive Development Program

Michael-Lopez-associate-CNOMichael A. Lopez, BSN, MBA, RN, CEN, has been named associate chief nursing officer for St. David's South Austin Medical Center. Michael comes from the Executive Development program in Tennessee, to which he was accepted in June 2013.

As associate CNO at South Austin, Michael will work with the nursing administrative team under the leadership of Sally Gillam, South Austin's CNO.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to guide Michael as he continues his journey to readiness as a chief nursing officer," Gillam said. "We strive to continually expand upon the level of care we provide to every patient, every day, and we know that Michael will help us to achieve this goal."

Michael started in health care management in 2003 at Las Colinas Medical Center in Irving, Texas and became manager of the cardiac catheterization lab there in 2007; he then was became director of emergency services in 2009.

In 2010, Michael was named administrative director of invasive cardiovascular services, emergency services, interventional radiology and pharmacy where he assisted in the development of the interventional cardiac, stroke and STEMI service lines and lead the emergency department to a consistent decrease in overall turnaround times.

In 2011, he was recognized as a Great 100 Nurse by "The Great 100 Nurses of Dallas Fort Worth".

Among professional organizations, his memberships include being a voting member of the American Heart Association in Dallas, a member of the American College of Health Care Executives, the Emergency Nurses Association, the American Association of Critical Nurses, the Texas Organization of Nurse Executives (TONE), the Central Texas Chapter of TONE and an alumni of North Texas Emerging Leaders Program.

His education includes a bachelor's in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington and a MBA with an emphasis in health care from Texas Woman's University.
