CNO-Stephanie-MearnsInterim chief nursing officer for West Hills Hospital & Medical Center since June 24, 2013, Stephanie Mearns has been promoted to vice president and the permanent role of chief nursing officer.

Since she started with West Hills, Stephanie has focused on meeting with the medical staff leadership to hear their priorities for care and meeting with hospital staff to familiarize herself with the skill and tenure and to hear their own priorities and concerns. From visiting with patients she has learned what draws them to the hospital for their care.

From all of this she has begun to address issues around CORE measures, patient satisfaction/HCAHPS and employee engagement.

Stephanie comes to West Hills with more than 30 years-experience in nursing leadership, her most recent role from Seton Medical Center in Daly City as vice president of Patient Care Services and chief nurse executive.

Her duties at Seton included oversight of acute, skilled and sub-acute nursing care, as well as ancillary services.

Also, addressing the role of nursing competency in driving safe patient outcomes, she presented outcomes to Sigma Theta Tau International in Prague, Czech Republic.

Stephanie received her master's in nursing administration from UCLS School of Nursing, her Bachelor of Science in nursing from University of Colorado and is a Johnson & Johnson Wharton School of Business Fellow.

She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a past president for the Association of California Nurse Leaders where she remains actively involved and also serves as an Advisory Board Member for Catalyst and Nurse.com.

Her new role at West Hills Hospital officially began at the start of September.

Congratulations, Stephanie.
