We've done it again! Ethisphere Institute has named HCA one of the World's Most Ethical Companies for the fifth consecutive year.

Ethisphere is an independent research center that promotes best practices and thought leadership in corporate ethics and governance. The World's Most Ethical Company assessment is based upon the Ethisphere Institute’s Ethics Quotient™ framework, and scores are generated in five key categories:

  • Ethics and compliance program.
  • Reputation, leadership and innovation.
  • Governance.
  • Corporate citizenship and responsibility.
  • Culture of ethics.

Of the 144 organizations to make the list, HCA is one of only eight honored in the healthcare industry.

"Being named one of Ethisphere's World’s Most Ethical Companies is recognition for our more than 200,000 employees because the rigorous selection process looks at organizations' day-to-day operations," said Alan Yuspeh, HCA’s senior vice president and chief ethics and compliance officer. "This achievement is a source of pride for all of us at HCA because it is a reflection of our values of compassion, respect and integrity."

And while we've been long-known as a leader in ethics and compliance, serving as a model for many others, you probably weren't aware of the strides we've been making in the eco-friendly and sustainable markets. In fact, HCA is leading the way in environmental practices among healthcare companies.

In addition to our recycling efforts, we've installed solar and geothermal energy sources at facilities and helped lead efforts to create standardized environmental questions for healthcare purchases. We are also a member of the Practice GreenHealth and a charter member of the Healthier Hospitals Initiative, two organizations that champion eco-friendly practices in healthcare.

There is also our role in pioneering improved charity care and an uninsured discount policy, two efforts other hospitals throughout the country have been emulating.

Plus, we're the first providers to make detailed pricing information available to the public and provide extensive health care to those who are unable to pay.

Through approximately $22 million in grants since 2009, the HCA Foundation has actively supported other companies that promote health and well-being, childhood and youth development and those who foster arts.

These efforts are why Ethisphere recognizes us year after year.

"HCA joins an exclusive community committed to driving performance through leading business practices," Timothy Erblich, Ethisphere's CEO said. "We congratulate everyone at HCA for this extraordinary achievement."
