Parallon_Business_SolutionsIn May 2011, HCA officially launched its subsidiary, Parallon Business Solutionssm, which centralizes all of HCA's best practices into a service geared to help healthcare providers enhance their performance.

It's a triad of sorts, consisting of Parallon Business Performance Groupsm, which handles revenue cycle management, payroll, health information management and physician credentialing; Parallon Workforce Management Solutionssm, which provides strategic healthcare staffing and recruiting solutions to improve patient care and enhance operational performance with leading technology and services; and Parallon Supply Chain Solutionssm, which optimizes facility inventory, spend and standardization to ensure healthcare providers have the right products at the right time.

While most would consider the group new, the folks running Parallon Business Solutions are long-time HCA-ers including:

  • President Beverly Wallace, former head of HCA's Shared Services Group who recently retired in December 2011 after 28 years with HCA
  • Current President and CEO Michael O’Boyle
  • Eric Ward, with HCA for 20 years, the Parallon Business Performance Groupsm President and CEO
  • Jack Isle, a 23-year veteran at HCA and President and CEO of Parallon Workforce Management Solutionssm
  • and Jim Fitzgerald, a 29-year HCA veteran and President and CEO at Parallon Supply Chain Solutionssm

Parallon Business Solutions set out in a sprint at its official launch and in less than a month announced its collaboration with Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) to inspire improved revenue cycle excellence for hospitals and healthcare systems nationwide.

The collaboration incorporates HMFA's unique hfMAP web application that tracks and compares data between HCA's 160 hospitals and uses that information to improve revenue cycle performance.

Jump to October 2011, Parallon added three executives to its corporate team. Tom Fee, a 28-year veteran with consulting experience in corporate strategy, as Executive Vice President of Consulting; Kirk Richardson, with 18 years of experience in the medical device industry, as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing; and Roger Smith, a decade-long veteran of HCA and former VP of Human Resources of HCA, as Vice President of Human Resources for Parallon.

These three exceptional gentlemen have been instrumental to the success of Parallon in addressing the needs of a dynamic marketplace.

Two weeks after these announcements, the Parallon Business Performance Group received the 2011 Business Excellence Award from Florida's Clay County Chamber of Commerce, recognized for the innovation, ingenuity, leadership and community involvement of the Orange Park Shared Service Center team of 615 members.

Then, just three days later Parallon Business Performance Group's National Patient Account Services was recognized on the 2011 "Best Places To Work in Collections" list of the Accounts Receivable Management (ARM) industry. Companies were ranked on 1) evaluation of workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics and 2) measures of employee experience. The 30 highest scores are recognized by insideARM.com and the Best Companies Group. We placed second for large companies.

At the end of December, Beverly Wallace, following an amazing 28-year career with HCA, finalized her plan to retire and left HCA and Parallon Business Solutions to enjoy the golden years. Sad to see you go, Beverly. You will be missed.

Filling her shoes is new President and CEO Michael O'Boyle. Michael has a long history in healthcare financial management with extensive experience in both the provider and payor sectors. We are confident of his leadership abilities to carry Parallon along with its clients successfully into the future.

And to wrap things up, just last month the Parallon Business Performance Group received the Ontario System's Hall of Fame Award for Innovation. The Group was chosen for differentiating itself in the marketplace by incorporating Ontario System's Artiva Healthcare, which was used to assure consistent follow-ups to all commercial and government accounts across member facilities.

For HCA, Parallon Business Solutions' patient-first philosophy exemplifies our own. As we mold the standards to improve how healthcare is delivered and received, the experience we lend to healthcare systems across the nation solidifies that constant and builds upon it to attain new heights and continued innovations. We are deeply excited for what the future holds after seeing what Parallon Business Solutions has already achieved.
