joint-commissions-top-performers-2011We are excited to announce that nine HCA hospitals in Florida were recognized last week by the Joint Commission as Top Performers in quality. Congratulations to the following:

· Central Florida Regional Hospital in Seminole County

· Community Hospital in New Port Richey

· Doctors Hospital of Sarasota

· Edward White Hospital in St. Petersburg

· Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlott

· Largo Medical Center in Largo

· Oak Hill Hospital in Hernando County

· Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Pasco County

The Joint Commission is the health care industry's primary accrediting body and the nine HCA facilities out of West Florida Healthcare represent part of the 14% of the Commission's evidence-based processes linked to positive patient outcomes in their annual report "Improving America's Hospitals".

“Today the public expects transparency in the reporting of performance at the hospitals where they receive care, and The Joint Commission is shining a light on the top performing hospitals such as West Florida Healthcare that have achieved excellence on a number of vital measures of quality of care,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president, The Joint Commission.

The report is determined by attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measures that cite improvement in cardiac, pneumonia, surgical and pediatric asthma care , of which measures our hospitals scored 95% or higher.

"We are proud that HCA hospitals represent nearly one in five of those recognized by the Joint Commission as top performers," said Dr. Jonathan B. Perlin, HCA's Chief Medical Officer and President of the company's Clinical and Physician Services Group. "This designation is a tribute to our affiliated physicians and 190,000 employees who are responsible for approximately 18 million patient encounters annually. We will continue to work with our physicians, nurses and other caregivers as part of our ongoing effort to improve clinical quality."

In addition to being included in the release of The Joint Commission’s “Improving America’s Hospitals” annual report, all nine hospitals will also be recognized on the Commission’s Quality Check website.

The importance of this accreditation is how it reflects the dedication of HCA to delivering the highest quality care to patients in our community.
